UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum attended the Gulf News-sponsored seventh race meeting of the Dubai World Cup Carnival 2012 at Meydan Racecource in Dubai.
The event was also attended by Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, sheikh Saeed Maktoum Al Maktoum, Sheikh Jumaa bin Dalmouk Al Maktoum, Sheikh Hamad bin Dalmouk Al Maktoum, a number of officials and huge crowd of horse racing enthusiasts.
Sheikh Mohammed watched as Gamilati stormed to an easy victory, leaving her rivals behind, in the UAE 1,000 Guineas; the 1,600-metre all-weather contest which carries a lucrative prize of US$250,000. Ridden by Frankie Dettori, the filly easily disposed of her challengers and emerged winner by five and half lengths.
At the end of the race, Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum received the winner’s trophy. Rider Frankie Dettori and trainer Mahmoud Al Zarouni also received their cups amid applause from the audience.
Commenting on Gamilati’s victory, Sheikh Mohammed said “She is a very nice filly with a touch of class and that was a very good performance.”
“We have lots of options with her now where the UAE Oaks is under definite consideration and perhaps then the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot or maybe the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket,” he added.
“We will keep everything open to this filly,” Sheikh Mohammed continued.
At the end of the racing event, Sheikh Mohammed wished Gamilati more future accomplishments with the Godolphin team.
