Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), announced the much awaited metro fares on Monday at a crowded press conference.
Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, has approved the fare structures after endorsing Order Number 3/2009, governing the Unified Fare of Mass Transport in Dubai by means of a Unified Electronic Fare Card known as ‘Nol card’, an electronic ‘Pay as you go’ system introduced by the RTA with effect from September 9, 2009, the launch day of the Red Line of the Dubai Metro.
Children under five years can travel free while students and senior citizens would get special discounts. A monthly pass for students will cost Dh170 for unlimited trips, while a senior citizen's pass for a month will cost Dh200.
